Our goal for this virtual meeting series is to collect the Advisory Committee's feedback to shape a plan for action for the next 6 months - 10 years. We are looking for big ideas. We are interested in moving towards the vision we want to achieve in the long term (universal free school meals), and are interested in the steps we need in the next 1, 2, 5 years in order to move in that direction.
From August - November we will hold meetings around different topics, all focused on developing actionable steps toward creating a food system with more nourishing and equitable outcomes. Meetings will be guided by a particular lens through which we experience NC's regional food systems. While we appreciate that these are by no means the only relevant lenses, we will focus on the following:
August - Urban/Rural
September - Generational
October - Racial Identity
November - Organizational
February/March - Summary of all Conversations
These recommended actions will be compiled following each meeting with a short summary from these identity perspectives each month. Each month’s conversations will offer the existing draft a starting point to deepen or add to. By December, we will have a list of all of your ideas and recommendations. By February, we will have a more clear set of themes/strategies for you to respond to. At that point, we will work with the Advisory Committee, to understand our best next steps.
Additionally, throughout the next few months, we will look for opportunities to share the outcomes of these meetings with groups currently meeting to take action around the state.
A short summary will be available here following the conclusion of these identity conversation each month.
